When You Think About Love, Think About Me

 JOLENE / DOLLY PARTON

A Call For Change

FROM REVELANDRIOT.COM: Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara has written a very important piece about the music industry’s new darling, Tyler, the Creator, and the music media that supports him despite his ridiculously offensive lyrics and twitter which is full of anti-gay, woman-hating slurs and insults. He defends them by saying he’s not being serious, but we doubt that many of his listeners get the so-called ironic subtext of lyrics like ‘rape a pregnant bitch and tell my friends I had a threesome.”  While Tyler’s homophobia is horrifying in itself, her piece most significantly calls out the music industry for turning a blind eye. (We never thought we’d see the NBA being more gay-friendly than the music world.)

fuck odd future.

Who is Chelsea Wolfe?

I have heard Chelsea Wolfe's music called many exotic things. Doom-folk, psychedelic, experimental, and "spiritual realm funeral songs" all fall under possible genres that could be used to categorize the LA singer-songwriter's hypnotic tunes. Her forthcoming album, Ἀποκάλυψις' (APOKALYPSIS), is set to be released on August 23, 2011 via Pendu Sound Recordings. After listening to her debut album a of couple times, I still have yet to generate a statement regarding my feelings about Wolfe and her perplexing music. Her concepts are definitely original, as she utilizes obscure and cryptic sounds throughout the duration of APOKALYPSIS. The only thing I have yet to conclude is whether or not she has successfully executed her visions with a memorable record. Have a listen for yourself and check out the track 'MER' below:

TWO + TWO

I have probably watched this documentary 10+ times. It's so beautiful. If you have an hour, follow this video and watch the rest of Two + Two, a film documenting Natasha Khan's journey as she records Bat For Lashes' second album, Two Suns. I promise you will be inspired.

will i ever find that place they call good love?

la bandera de California tiene diez piernas rotas llenas de tus tiernas gotas

I adore Devendra Banhart. I really do. There are two guys for me: 1) Devendra and 2) Ryan Gosling (I fucking loved Dead Man's Bones for a while). Whenever I get in a funk, all I have to do is put on Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon or Rejoicing In The Hands and everything magically gets better. I don't know what it is about Devendra, but the simplicity of music makes everything seem so small. I suppose thats music at its core. The ability to give life to unexplainable emotions.

The perfect music:

Jader Toe's

So I'm going to apply for a job at Trader Joe's today. I don't know why, but I have always wanted to work at a grocery store. Perhaps it's because when I first started watching the L word, Jenny Schecter worked at cute market in LA (it's safe to say that when I was first coming out, I definitely wanted to be Jennifer Schecter). Or maybe it's because I'm a vegan and the idea of staring at colorful, organized vegetables excites me. Whatever my subconscious reasoning may be, I hope I get it. I kind of wouldn't mind having some extra spending money when I move to Brooklyn in 2 months. Also, I want a new bike. While my internship at Provisions (provisionslibrary.com) is going swell, the idea of working for no pay is starting to dwindle. I want money! I want money so I can do things that make me happy! (such as purchasing a new bike!)

How cute did Jenny look in her grocery store attire???
